Seattle Central | More than a college!
The Seattle Central neighborhood is the education hub of Capitol Hill.
Seattle Central Community College offers an awesome array of educational opportunities for just about anyone. Thinking about changing careers? Check out their certificate programs. Interested in boat building? Seattle Central has a phenomenal maritime woodworking program. Maybe you want to brush up on your French speaking skills for that trip to Paris.
That said, some of us sit in the front row and raising our hands to answer every question. Yawn. Others of us were falling asleep in the back row…. sitting in the classroom isn’t for everyone. Some of us are a little better with hands-on learning. This neighborhood offers a something for everyone looking to expand their horizons.
Thinking of training for your first marathon (or 5k)? Fleet Feet Sports is more than just a shoe store. They have a bazillion training programs to coach everyone from novice to marathoner and in between. I am a particularly a fan of the Pint Striders (run to beer, sounds pretty good to me).
Want to dust off that guitar your parents bought you in 11th grade? Thinking about trying your hand at songwriting? Just want to jam? Check out the Denny Music School.
You’ve been dabbling in painting with acrylics for a while now, but you’re thinking maybe it’s time to expand your horizons. Cross the street to Blick Art Materials and let the friendly folks help walk you through their selection of oil paints to get you started.
Like any good college student, you need a spot to whet your whistle. Snag a booth at The Redwood, the campy hipster dive tucked away on Howell. Grab an Oly and Crow for less than $5 at happy hour, chow on a grass-fed burger and watch a black and white flick on the screen.
Whatever your niche, this neighborhood has plenty of places to help you take a leap into a new adventure.
